Blue Christmas

This past month has been a difficult one.  Now that my depression has lifted I am feeling the homesickness more acutely.  This in addition to being sick for almsot 4 weeks.  It has also been difficult posting here so to get me started again I thought I would share my Blue Christmas.

Because this time of year is most difficult for those who are feeling the loss of a loved one(s). my church put on a Blue Christmas Service.  It was so awesome!  I think all who attended shed at least a few tears.  Me?  I cried most of the service.  I'd like to share with you some of the servcice.

We all know the story of Mary & Joseph & baby Jesus.  It was time for Mary to give birth, they found an inn but there was no room for them.

Do you know the story of Winnie the Pooh:  A Christmas Tale?  I didn't, but here is what I have learned.  Eeyore loses his tale (again).  Apparently he is a sad figure - always gloomy.  This particular story is about the hunt for his tail right before Christmas.  All ends well though as he gets his tail back.

That's a fairy tale, not real life.  Wouldn't it be nice if could fix things that easily that are broken in our life?
As we all know, we can't

Loss is painful and enduring.  Some losses are never recovered - death is final.  Some losses give us another chance - once unemployed, we can yet work again.   But each loss has the same crushing effect.  We are left wounded and are forever changed.  At Christmas, loss is magnified by the expectation of a joyful celebration.  we can feel utterly alone in the midst of a crowd.  At such a time, we can also feel utterly separated from God.

But, remember God knows firsthand our pain.  Jesus came to a family, community and world that has no place for him.  Before he takes his first breath, Christ already encounters our brokeness.  With his last breath, he encounters it again.  All along the way, Jesus - God's Christ - carries our sorrow and pain.

In Jesus, we have a God who does not take away our pain, but joins us in it.

We may be adults, but don't we yearn for our Moms & Dads to take away our pain by listening, or giving us a hug, etc.

God's presence in Christ in our lives transforms us, so that we can face our losses with courage.  God may not cure us, but he brings us healing and peace.  He brings HOPE.  With hope, we can go forward embracing the reality of our loss without being overwhelmed by it.

When we lose something of value - a dream, a relationship, a life - we lose a part of ourselves.  In Christ, God comes with this healing presence to journey with us in our loss, inviting us to find our wholeness, peace and life - our SHALOM - in and through him.  He is our healing and hope.

Lord God, as you promised that the wilderness itself would rejoice and blossom, so now I pray that you might let the wilderness within me shout for joy.  My heart aches and my loss consumes me.  I miss Mom, and Randy, now not with me anymore.  Comfort me with your healing presence, and let the gift of your grace illuminate this dark moment.  Replace my emptiness with the fullness of your peace, so that this moment of felt sadness might give way to a holy moment of joy and blessing:  through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

"The God of hope will fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13)

Let the quiet healing presence of Christ renew your day with peace and joy.

Prayer Request

Earlier this week, I learned that my cousin D. has a malignant brain tumor which is inoperable.  She is currently in a local Hospice.  I would like to request prayers for her, her son, and her family.  D. is only 51 years old.  Her son K. is in college.

This has been quite a shock for all who know & love her.  We want to spend as much time with her as we can.  Because there are so many who want to see her, a schedule is being set up for us to follow.  While that is difficult, we all want what is best for her and more than a few people in her room at a time is just too much for her.

Last night I chose one of my cards, wrote her a letter and then today I picked up some flowers & went to see her for the first time.  I'm glad I didn't cry.  I gave her the card, told her about the letter & suggested she read it when she could and then I said "boy, this was a stupid thing you went and did."  It broke the ice and we all laughed.

Dec. 25

Hi all.  These cards were created with our Simply Scrappin Kit Christmas Jingle.  Our kits are absolutely wonderful.  They come with 3 sheets each of 12x12 double-sided paper, 2 sheets each of 12x12 Textured Card Stock and 2 sheets of each of 3 different 6x12 Die Cuts.  The Die Cuts are similar to stickers, they are thicker & are repositionable for up to 24 hours.  So making these cards were simple and fun!  Great for a night when you want to create but don't want to bring out the stamps, cleaner & so on.

I created another 5 cards almost exactly like these, one 8x8 scrapbook page, and 1 garland.  I will try to show you those in the upcoming days.  Guess what?  I still have lots of paper and die-cuts to create with.

Serene Snowflakes

One of my favorite SU designers is Sandi MacIver. I got my inspiration from her for this card. I didn't have the stamp set that she used so I used Serene Snowflakes with some of our new Shimmer Paint in Platinum. This one didn't come together as easily as some do though, maybe I've got bad mojo this week. I certainly feel like it. Persevere Deloris, it will get better.

Friday, my stamp group gets together, so I have something to look forward to, besides appointment after appointment this week.

My Thoughts Tonight

It's been a difficult week with car issues, computer issues, and financial issues, so if you have missed me, thanks so much for coming back.

KC, my cat, wants to say hi to everyone, too.

Tomorrow is Octoberfest at my church so Friday & Saturday I have been creating items for sale. Hope to see some of you there.

I've set a goal to sell a certain amount of Stampin Up items and pre-made items by the end of the year, so I am going to ask all of my friends & family to help me. I'll be selling beautiful hand-made Christmas cards - 5 cards for $12.00. I know I can do it. If you would like to help, let me know.

Friday night was our monthly stamp meeting. We had a lot of fun catching up, stamping, & learning new techniques. I'll be showing you those in the upcoming weeks. There was one thing I learned that I want to start right away. I'll providing weekly projects, promos, tips, gift ideas, etc. I have so much I want to share with you!

I went to church Saturday night & would like to share some of that with you tonight. Pastor's message was titled "Whole Life Stewardship - True Riches in Christ." Jesus said, "Go, sell everything you have and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven." (Mark 10:21)

First, let me say that this was a difficult message for me. Being low on the financial totem pole, it's hard to feel generous & give away what little I have or the money I want to make to buy the things I want to have, instead of giving it away. I wonder if anyone would feel differently about their possesions. I wondered to myself, as I sat there in Churh, looking around at others who were there, will they give everything they have away? I beleive that the text is telling us that the real treasure is God. If some of you are asking yourself - does Jesus really want me to give everything I have away? Can I keep some of it? If I give it all away, then I will be poor. " In our heart, we know the answer, but we want to bargain with God. So, the question becomes, "how much do I want Jesus?" Again, I'm not doing very well with my answer.

After Jesus has this conversation with the rich man, Jesus predicts his own death. Even more radical than what Jesus asked the rich man, God asked Jesus for his all, including his life!. And Jesus did, for us. This was powerful to hear. How many times have I heard Jesus died for our sins? I've heard this since I was in Sunday School! Can you imagine giving your life for someone? Can you imagine giving up your life? Think about those who have died in combat, or those who serve in our Police & Fire Departments who have lost their lives. They died for you and me! Can we ever repay them?

Today, through faith in Jesus, we have forgiveness, and where there is forgiveness, all things are possible.

This was a heavy & difficult message tonight. As Pastor says, maybe we should find a balance. We're not going to give everything away, but if our possessions are preventing us from a life with God, then we need to rethink our priorities. If we can give of ourselves to others, God promises to care for us in this world and the next one. There is a but, life is better with Christ but it is also filled with pain, suffering, etc.

I'm Still Around

I can't believe it has been a whole week since I've posted. I'm so sorry. My car has been in the shop. I fried the motherboard on my computer. A friend of a friend sold me another computer. Nothing works. I have to go searching for the files & open them up, but they are missing a file so am e-mailing help desks all over everywhere. I've been working (volunteering) at my church several days a week. By the time I get home, get supper, do a little housecleaning, I'm ready for bed! Please bear with me as I settle into my new routine.

I'm trying to finish a couple of scrapbook pages. Hope to have those for you later this week.

I still would like to have a Holiday Open House, but just can't make myself commit to it. Somebody hit me with a wet noodle.

I hope you will come back.

Blessings,
Deloris

Catching Up

Wow, can't beieve it is only Friday. All day I've been thinking it was Saturday. I have been volunteering a my church several days a week - usually Wednesday, Thursday & Friday and I am loving every minute of it. The self-confidence I lost during my depession is growing by leaps and bounds! I can't thank Jayna enough of that she has done for me, she keeps telling me I do the same for her. I can't remember working for someone who continually thanks you and tells you how much you are helping them! Certainly not my previous employer - AT&T.

I have updated my blog with the new promos & projects for this month, so I hope you have a few minutes to check this out.

Also, I finally have the correct batteries for digital camera battery charger, so I'll be out taking photos of quite a few projects I have for you.

Kathy recently sent my some info regarding a light box that is easily made at home. I haven't had time to look at it, but I'm thinking that will solve some of my lighting problems inside.

KC, my cat, is finding it hard to be by himself when I am gone! If everyone could say "poor baby" it would make him feel more loved right now. (chuckling, but serious)

I've reconnected with my neice, Blair. I have enjoyed catching up with her. Looking forward to more. She graduates from high school next year. Quinn, my nephew, is busy with hockey & school. They are great students and great people.

Well, I have you caught up with my life. I'm looking forward to scrapbooking tomorrow. Have a great weekend everyone. See you on the flip side.

Thankful

I'm so thankful for my wonderful friends! They have been so understanding and patient with me while I have been dealing with depession these past few years. I can't thank them enough. I sometimes wonder what they see in me, though I know that is my depression talking. I hope that if you know somone who is struggling that you are able to be caring and supportive. Many of you probably know how hurtful family and friends can be and how many years it can take to get past the pain.

Kathy made this for me to celebrate my birthday (in June), but it is just as important now as it would have been then. Thanks Kathy.

Aren't these colors just yummy! They remind me of linens my sister brought back from India for me for Christmas last year. Creepy Crawly, Oh My Golly

I wanted a quick card for tonight and I wanted to use this stamp set, so headed to SCS & found this card. I changed a couple of things so as to use what supplies I had on hand.

This month I celebrated my 5 years as a Stampin Up Demonstrator & one of the most fun things about stampin for so long is the supplies you have built up. When you find a design you like, you can pretty much recreate it right then and there - not have to go shopping all over town to find them!

Something else I would like to say tonight is that there are many kinds of stampers/scrapbookers. Those who design their own, and those who are creative copiers, and let me tell you that both are hugely successful! In Stampin Up we believe in CASE - Copy And Share Everything. Be proud of your copied designs, give the original designer all the credit that is due her/him.

Each of us have special gifts that God has given us, so show your copied designs off to the world!

Thank You Blair

I want to say a special thank you to my neice, Blair, for stopping by the other night. We reconnected recently via Facebook & texted each other Monday night. I hope this year is a fabulous one for her, I know mine was.

The Armor of God

Saturday at Church was another enlightening experience for me & would like to share. The theme was The Armor of God - Divine Protection. be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For your struggle is not against flesh and blood . . ."

We know that evil exists all around us in this world, but we forget that it is also in us. The threat is not just physical, it is also spiritual.

God sent his Son into our dangerous & broken world to protect & care for us, and to show us the way. He sent his Son to redeem us. Why did God do this? Simply because he loves us.

We can find strength in him. God's power makes a way for us to contend against the evil around us, and the evil within us. God's power in Christ brings us inner peace - no matter the struggle around us.

Evil is real but it will never win in the end. God will. His love will endure forever!

Blessings to each of you,

I needed a quick card for tonight. One of the advantages of being a Stampin Up Demonstrator is that every day they share about 7 new cards with us that have been sent in by Demos. This is one of them. The colors she used were Real Red & Yo Yo Yellow. I chose Bordering Blue & Pretty in Pink. You know, I have never used this color combo before and, I really like it. In fact, I rarely use Bordering Blue. It has a lot of gray in it so I frequently use the Marker. For accessories, I used Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon and the Ribbon Slider from the Hodgepodge Hardware.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I love sharing my creativeness! Feel free to leave a comment or share your website with us.

My SWAP

Happy Birthday to you! As you might have guessed, our swaps this month was based on Birthdays. Fun & Fast Notes had a birthday cake with candles, and I hadn't used this set in a long time. You might think about this set, as it is so versatile & comes with greetings.

When you mount stamps like these, you can also cut off the verse & mount it on another piece of wood, if you have access to these. This would be a great time saver for you. If you have how-to questions regarding this or any other stamping/scrapping project, just let me know. I am glad to help.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy!

Recipe:
CS - Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, So Saffron
DSP - Pink Flamingo
Stamps - Fun & Fast Notes
Ribbon - Originals Elementary
Markers - Chocolate Chip, Real Red, So Saffron, Tempting Turquoise
Punch - Boho Flower

Theresa's SWAP

Theresa used the Big Shot & the Build a Flower Die to create these pretty flowers for her card. The verse is from Heard From The Heart. Theresa so glad you joined us!

A Prayer For Me This Week

I would like to share a prayer with you. Brad, a Deacon of my church, included it in his message last weekend & I wanted to work on it, so I asked if he would e-mail it to me. I'm grateful that he took the time to do so. Forgiveness is such a difficult thing to do, especially if that person has hurt you deeply.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that you give me the grace to forgive others just as you forgave me so that I can stay in a close loving relationship with you and the people around me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings to all of you.

Arla's SWAP

Wow! I love how the Crushed Curry really pops on the Soft Suede! Arla used the Great Friend Stamp set & the new Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot ribbon. She also used the fabulous Sizzix Movers & Shakers Die to punch the Curvy Label in the center of the card. This cool tool will even score your card for you! I'm in love. (sigh)

Medallion

This is Lisa's swap. Isn't it pretty? I love the new Soft Suede color with Cameo Coral. She used one of the white silk flowers in the Pretties Kit & & colored it with Soft Suede Re-Inker.

Happy Birthday

I want to show you our swaps for this month, the theme was Happy Birthday. Don't you just adore these colors? You'll love the ease of this card, lots of punches were used.

If Nothing Ever Changed, Then There Would Be No Butterflies - Unknown

Isn't this card just gorgeous? Lisa provided the supplies for all of us to make it. It was such a fun evening. A few of us were able to be there early so we had a taco salad supper & rainbow sherbet for dessert. We got all of our heartbreak out in the open, shed some tears, passed around hugs & then had a blast stamping. There were great swaps & many of us brought projects that we had been working on at home to show off. We played with the new Movers & Shakers Die. Wow, that one is amazing & will do so much for you. Several brought cardstock/DSP to cut from the cool tools that were available that night. We also decorated flip flops. How fun is that! Will try to get pics for you on that one!

I love that you stopped by! Hope to see you again.
